Yesterday at a Kiev tramvai station market, I bought an Ivan Kramskoy reproduction for five dollars.
I have a dream that is now a plan: to own a large country home in the Ukrainian countryside and fill every room with Russian and Ukrainian books and Soviet nostalgia and reproduction art from the great artists of the Russian speaking world. ANd a huge wine cellar stocked with NOT French or Italian wine, but with wine from every former republic of the former Soviet Union. Then I would truly be free.
I think that every ex-pat if they have the financial ability , should strive to live in the countryside. It is a different way of live..in any country not just Ukraine, Belarus or Russia. Today, Ukraine news and even Russian news , they do not showcase enough “everyday” life of different strat of citizens. We see mostly “city” people and I never was a “city boy”, i’m a die-hard “country-boy”, which means, bare-foot walks through the backyard garden to pick vegetables to make a salad with dinner, it means fresh air and very generous neighbors and community in general. SO, start collecting your “reproduction art” and start saving your money too, for that life-transition to the countryside where you can “live free”.
